So whether you use powerboats for leisure, work, or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue, we have a course for you.

What You Will Learn

RYA Powerboat Handling Level 2 provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations.

Pre-course experienceNone. May be preceded by RYA Start Powerboating Level 1.
Assumed knowledgeNone. Student may choose to attend an RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship theory course.

All safety equipment as per RYA Standards and inspection.
Use of RYA inspected and approved powerboat ‘Joey’ during the training course.
ExcludedAccommodation, transfers, flights, food, drinks.

Course contentLaunching and recovery, close quarters boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, planing speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations.
