33rd Bequia Easter Regatta 2014

Caribbean Regatta Charters

Grenada Bluewater Sailing are looking forward to another successful year at the Bequia Easter Regatta. In the final press release for 2013, the 32nd Bequia Easter Regatta received “universal praise as a record-breaking total of 54 yachts, together with 29 local double-enders, registered to take part in Bequia’s world-famous sporting and tourism event. Conditions were blustery and challenging but this could not dampen the spirits of the 83 boat fleet as they raced with superb skill throughout the four day event”.

After racing on James Dobb’s Lost Horizon in 2013, the Grenada Bluewater Sailing team are excited to be going back this year to compete on our very own Chao Lay. Skipper Alex Johnstone came 1st in the Heineken Single-handed Around Bequia race last year, and Lost Horizon won 1st place overall in the racing class. We are hoping for an equally successful regatta in 2014.

2013 saw the “highest yacht turnout yet seen for Bequia’s regatta, coupled with unprecedented numbers of visitors and following boats coming to Bequia for the event”. 2014 promises to be just as thrilling with a great set of courses planned, fun lay day activities and plenty of sponsored evening celebrations. Antigua Sailing Week:

For five days crews are challenged with a variety of coastal race courses encouraging tacking duels around the buoys – all set on the deep blue Caribbean Sea with the ever-present trade winds. It’s a picture perfect setting that is enhanced as the evening colors brighten the western sky and the sun-burnt, salt-encrusted, weary sailors make their way to the barbecues, steel bands and rum punches. While hundreds of locals and visitors carry on partying well into the evening, many of the yacht crews know there is another day of racing out there and so they leave the late night revelry for the others to finish.
