Next Step After Your RYA Day Skipper Course… Go Sailing!

So, you’ve just passed your RYA Day Skipper course. The taste of sea salt is still fresh on your lips and your hair is now permanently wind swept. You’re raring to get out and put all your new skills to good use. But what’s next?

Our instructors have some great tips on the next step to take after attaining your RYA Day Skipper course.

You should have learned the techniques for skippering a sailing vessel safely and competently in familiar waters during the day. However, on your first adventure as the skipper you may feel more comfortable with some additional support. There’s two great ways to ensure peace of mind:

  1. Have professional backup onboard a crewed yacht charter, or
  2. Join a flotilla vacation supported by a lead yacht.

Crewed Yacht Charters in Grenada

Sunset on a crewed yacht charter in Grenada.Crewed yacht charters are the perfect way to get all the support you need instantly. Having professional crew on board means that you have instant feedback and advice if needed. The crew will let you take the lead as skipper, but be there to support you with their local sailing knowledge.

Grenada Bluewater Sailing offers this fun and safe option for all guests. Simply send us an email to let us know where you would like to cruise and how long for. The benefit of our crewed yacht charters is that our skippers are highly experienced RYA instructors too. They will go the extra mile to assist with all elements of the vacation, from planning to sailing and provisioning; or, they are happy to take a step back and let you take charge.

Grenada Bluewater Sailing will let you tailor a personal sailing itinerary based on weather conditions, tide, and island activities. Our crew know all the best hot spots in Grenada and the Grenadines so please feel free to ask for advice.

Flotilla Vacation in the Caribbean

The crew will have a separate yacht, and be there to give advice on everything from local sailing knowledge to mechanical support. After giving a morning briefing, they will cast off and leave you to explore and sail at your own pace; ready to meet you later at the evening rendezvous point.

Flotilla vacations offer independant sailing by day and a friendly social scene at night. You can even invite your friends and family along on other boats – a great way to have a group vacation. Sunsail offer flotilla vacations in the Caribbean and Mediterranean with a number of different sailing itineraries.
