The RYA Coastal Skipper theory/ RYA Yachtmaster Offshore theory course allows candidates to learn to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. Focusing on advanced navigation and meteorology skills, this course will take your sailing or boating knowledge to the standard required for the RYA Coastal Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams.


Electronic Navigation and Technology

As with the RYA Day Skipper theory course, trainees will use the RYA’s specially designed chart plotter software. This is used to give you a realistic taste of modern electronic navigation that is used. The RYA Coastal Skipper theory/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore theory course allows initial revision of the basics, and then our highly knowledgeable RYA Instructors will work with you to develop your advanced navigation techniques.

The RYA Coastal Skipper theory is taught over 40 hours. Assessment takes additional time with three examination papers. It can be covered as a series of short sessions, or as an intensive 7 day course, based in Grenada. Afterwards, join Grenada Bluewater Sailing on board S/Y Chao Lay for complementary courses such as the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical course or an intensive RYA Yachtmaster Preparation course. Chao Lay is a Beneteau Oceanis 461; exceptionally spacious, she has three private en-suite cabins. A bluewater cruiser, she is the perfect sailing vessel to undertake training on.
